September 4th’s Marketing Institute marked the first of many exciting events the GMA has organized for this upcoming school year. The Institute is designed to teach our students about the many career paths one can take within the marketing field. Our company lineup was very diverse and included Kate Somerville, Nike, KOR, Del Monte and Warner Brothers. With such a dynamic group of speakers, we know our students had a fantastic launch pad of companies to explore as they begin their careers within marketing!
We started our day with an inspirational tale of perseverance and passion which led Amy Liu, Director of Marketing – Kate Somerville, to her current position within the skin care industry.
After a brief break, Global Retail Marketing Director, Karen Brereton, inspired the students with Nike’s history and an introduction to the company’s many community outreach programs. Additionally, she brought some great swhag – Thanks Karen!
J. Eric Barnes – Founder & CEO and Paul Shustak –Co-founder & COO of KOR gave us a fantastic overview of entrepreneurship which, after Nike, provided the perfect juxtaposition between a small start up and a large established corporation. KOR, we love your water bottles!
Del Monte Foods’ Senior Brand Manager Carlos Cojulun used his time to educate the students about the 18 ways to sell a brand. Not only did the student leave a little wiser, but they left with side aches. Carlos was hilarious.
Lastly, Steve Mellano of Warner Brothers provided insight into the intricacies of market research within the exciting field of entertainment. The students appreciated learning the challenges behind marketing those blockbuster movies.
